traditions and nostalgia

it was an amazing day with the kiddos out at Pioneer's park today.  it's always a little strange for me to take them there since i grew up going there all the time as a kid.  i'm pretty sure every time we go i text my dad to tell him know some traditions are never forgotten.  in another couple weeks as it gets a lot warmer i'm sure we'll take the tradition a step further and go to Zesto for Krunch-Kote cones or Nut-Brown-Crowns.  mmmmmm.... some traditions are delicious.

we started out exploring the nature center and then checking out the elk and bison which were pretty active and amazing to see.  we saw an enormous turtle and a bunch of geese.  indeed, spring is in fact finally here!

we had a blast playing on the new playground, although i have to admit i'm always a little nostalgic for the old one, especially the ancient fire truck that used to be out there.  i will say i'm irritated that the restrooms are quite the hike away from the playground, Theia blew through all her back up pants and rode home in nothing but chonies by the time we were done.

no trip to Pioneer's is complete without a hike up to the Smoke Signal statue so we went up there.  a friend caught up with us with her 3 kids and we all had a picnic lunch together right there at the base of the hill leading up to him.

all in all it was a fantastic trip.  one i'm sure we'll start doing every weekend or couple times a month at least.

in the spirit of nostalgia and reminiscing i'm showing a photo of me and my sisters at the statue circa 1985, and one of the kids today.  enjoy
